Saturday is National Coming Out Day

October 11th has been recognized as an important day in LGBT history ever since the 1987 "March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights.’ Half a million people participated in the march, and a year later activists decided to commemorate the monumental event. In celebration of all those who shared their stories during the successful march, they declared October 11th as National Coming Out Day.
Over the years, events have typically been held nationwide to claim pride in LGBT heritage by telling "Coming Out" stories. On October 11th, doors will be creaking and slamming open all over the nation. In honor of National Coming Out Day this year, PositiveVOICE is hosting a special event at the Harmony Café in Green Bay. From 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm that afternoon, we will have the unique opportunity to witness "Coming Out Through The Generations." A panel of eight community members, ranging in age from a 19 year-old recent Southwest High School graduate to a 77 year-old Appleton retiree, will share their coming out stories and answer our questions. Please join us as we gather to honor their journeys and learn from their stories. It’s an opportunity you won’t want to miss!
